BotNet, also called zombie network and network of bots is a group of computers which are used to discreetly send data like spam and viruses to other computers on the internet. These actions are carried out by malicious programs without the knowledge of the users. These malicious programs mainly consist of viruses, Trojans and worms. Infected computers are called bots or zombies. Most computers which are infected are personal home internet PCs which are inadequately protected.

When a PC becomes part of a BotNet, it can be instructed to do almost anything by the creator of botnet. In effect it becomes a drone which cannot resist the commands of its master. In this case, the master is the creator of the malicious software (malware). Most Bots are employed in propagation of spam and viruses. Often malware is used for key-press logging which can result in mass identity theft. Zombie computers can also be used for denial of service attacks in which many bots simultaneously log onto a particular server, thus exceeding the server’s bandwidth and crashing it. This technique is particularly effective when the Botnet is large and contains thousands of computers. Many advanced malware can even spread themselves via email while the malware of smaller botnets lack this capability.

BotNets are programmed in such a way that they are difficult to find and analyze. Normally they receive instructions from their creators through IRC (Internet Relay Channels). As of April 2008, the Storm BotNet and the Kraken BotNet are the largest BotNets in the world with an estimated 400,000 bots. Other significant BotNets are Rbot and Bobax with an estimated 20,000 bots each.

So on a day to basis, the best way to protect your computer properly is to frequently scan and update your antivirus and firewall software. Special sensors called ‘honeynets’ have also been set up on the internet these nets mimic the characteristics of computers with known security flaws in an effort to lure hackers into them and track down malware creators. It has been recently quoted by Kaspersky Labs (creators of Kaspersky anti-virus) that botnets pose more of a threat to the internet community than individual viruses and worms.

Statistics show that the first three hours after a child’s abduction are most critical to recovery efforts. By combining the efforts of the wireless industry with the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and law enforcement agencies, the Wireless AMBER Alerts™ initiative will be a catalyst for the more than 200 million wireless subscribers to aid in the search for and recovery of an abducted child.

AMBER

According to NCMEC, more than 260 children have been recovered since the AMBER Alert program began in 1997. The program-an early warning system to find abducted children-started as a local effort in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area and became a national initiative in 2003. AMBER stands for “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.” The program is a legacy to Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and was later found murdered.

An estimated 70 percent of Americans have wireless phones, and together they can serve as a national network that assists families and the authorities in searching for abducted children. By signing up to receive Wireless AMBER Alerts, subscribers receive information about local Alerts, as well as updates as the search progresses.

Opting In

Subscribers capable of receiving text messages, and whose wireless carrier participates in the Wireless AMBER Alerts initiative, may opt in to receive Alerts by registering at www.wirelessamberalerts.org or their wireless carrier’s Web site. Users can designate up to five ZIP codes from which they’d like to be alerted in the case of an AMBER Alert activation.

Public Service

Advertising Campaign

The Advertising Council, in partnership with NCMEC, The Wireless Foundation and the U.S Department of Justice, launched a multimedia public service advertising (PSA) campaign designed to raise awareness of Wireless AMBER Alerts and encourage all wireless subscribers to aid in the search for abducted children. It is the first nationwide PSA campaign to address this technology and the ads launched on National Missing Children’s Day (May 25th).

Wireless subscribers can now sign up to receive free AMBER Alerts via text messages.

If you have experienced a Windows “No Audio Device” error, it most likely means that your sound card is not installed properly. Even though other problems can cause this error, an improperly installed sound card is the most common reason. If the audio card isn’t properly connected in the motherboard or you do not have an audio controller connected, you will get this error. Also, it is possible that the device you are trying to use is not compatible to the motherboard you are using.
Troubleshooting the most common error.
Here are a few steps to take to solve the most common error, an improperly installed card:
You will first need to find your audio controlling device or controller. This controller is what gives you the ability to adjust the sound for everything. From your start menu, go to your control panel. Then, go to add hardware and search for the hardware yourself. Don’t let the computer search for it automatically, because if it is improperly installed it may not be seen. Then, scroll down to sound devices and search for your audio controller. Check the properties of the device, and see if it is installed properly. If it isn’t installed properly you will see a yellow highlighted question mark beside the device’s name.
• The best way to solve this problem is to uninstall your sound card and drivers. You will reboot, enter the bios, disable the onboard audio, game port, and midi. Then boot back into windows, go to add remove programs and make sure that any programs for the device was removed.
Next, you should reinstall the sound card and drivers. It is possible driver updates have been made since the sound card was manufactured and released, so it is a good idea to visit the manufacturer’s site and see if there are driver updates. Once you do this, restart the computer again. The problem is (more than likely) the default device in audio properties is still the onboard, you can select the creative devices and it will probably work, but it will be better to disable the onboard all together.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the sound card will more than likely fix your problem.
Other troubleshooting tips.
If you are still experiencing difficulties, try these other troubleshooting ideas.
• If you think your sound card may be ‘dead’, before buying a new one, I would recommend borrowing one that is fully functioning from a friend, if possible, and installing that one to see if the error is in the card itself.

• Try using a different PCi slot, that way windows may detect it as new instead of trying to reconfigure it on the slots its currently on. This can also help you to determine whether one of the slots are bad.
• If you have an onboard sound card but are trying to use a sound card you bought separately, ensure the onboard one is disabled.
Always ensure the sound card you purchase is compatible with your board. If it doesn’t say on the packaging, do a little research online prior to the purchase.

Multicasting is the process of broadcasting a huge number of routing packets to multiple destinations with the use of fewer networks. Multicasting when used over wireless networks like cellular telephones is known as multicast wireless. As mobile companies all over the world upgrade their wireless networks to enhance the efficiency of new functions like mobile TV or IPTV, the bandwidth usage goes up dramatically, leading to the need for multicast wireless technology. Although the concept of wired multicasting, like ATM multicasting and IP multicasting, is still popular in some areas, it won’t be very long before wireless multicasting takes over the world.

Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is the preferred architecture that will promote third-generation mobile telecommunication systems. UMTS is an offspring of the second-generation mobile telecommunication system (GSM). UMTS is geared to provide higher bandwidth radio access, especially for packet-data-based traffic, in addition to conventional voice services. UMTS can provide maximum bandwidths ranging from 64kb/s – 2Mb/s. Enabling UMTS for different and concurrent high-bandwidth users, thereby reducing cost, will require multicast wireless protocols to be in place.

Multicast wireless technology replaces the older technology with only a few infrastructural changes. To begin with, existing routers must be upgraded to include a specific multicast routing application in place of the older, traditional algorithms. When we speak of wireless multicasting, the most important medium of communication or broadcasting is the omni-directional antennas.

Multicasting is generally conducted through what is known as source-based multicast trees. The multicast tree operates on a number of algorithmic structures. The source-based mediums may need the receiver’s addresses and topology data. DVRMP and MOSPF are some of the best examples of the algorithms that are traditionally used in the process, especially for video broadcasting. All wireless broadcasting or multicasting processes are guided by a bunch of multicasting network protocols.

Wireless multicasting technology has triggered a tremendous curiosity in the minds of technocrats across the world. As mentioned earlier, the main reason for this is the rise in the number of mobile service provides, as well as the new functions and applications that are being integrated into mobile networks and wireless Internet connections. Moreover, communication dysfunction is harmful for basic and necessary services like the military, so the introduction of multicast wireless has made staying connected both easier and more effective. Cheaper broadcasting means many television channels can reach out to millions across the globe via IPTV and mobile TV broadcasting. In retrospect, it is clear that the need for multicast wireless was always present, but the realization has set in a bit late.

The purpose of having a wireless multicasting procedure is to maximize the security levels that were often found lacking in wired multicasting. Don’t be surprised if you see a constant growth in the quality of various broadcasting services now that they have wireless multicasting to fall back on.

Video conferencing allows people at two or more locations to interact through two-way transmission at the same time. Video conferencing is also known as video teleconferencing or visual collaboration. Users require a computer, web cam, microphone, and a broadband connection to participate in video conference. They can generate natural conversations by seeing and hearing each other. Video conference of two persons is known as point-to-point while the conference of more than two people is called multipoint conference.

Video conferencing is very useful way of communication because it saves money as well as time. People can do several business activities or meetings with two or more persons while sitting at office table. They don’t need to go anywhere to meet someone. Basic requirements for video conferencing are guaranteed latency, synchronization and broadcast. It enables people to have face-to-face meetings from a wide distance. Prices of teleconferencing are generally less than costs of travel. It’s an easy way to hold meetings, conduct interviews, give lectures and address employees.

Video conferencing is the best way of communication in medical, legal and educational fields. Normally there are three ways such as computer-based system, desktop system and studio-based system to set up a video conference. There is a limited field of vision in Computer-based system that is why it is the cheapest way of video conferencing. Desktop system improves the quality of audio and video transmission due to dedicated hardware installed on the computer. Most expensive method of video conferencing is studio-based system that offers best quality conferencing. It is mostly used in large-scale companies and universities. Studio-based system is just like a room that is fully equipped with control systems, document viewers, overhead cameras, vision switchers and slide viewers.

An organization, company, educational facility or individual requires some basic components to take complete advantages of video conferencing. Necessary equipment for videoconferencing is camera that lets user to capture video information at his or her site and transmit to someone on the other site. Video display is used to display video at their site and a microphone to hear the audio material.

Video conferencing terminals require a compressor/decompressor interface that helps in compressing the information while passing from audio to video to make transmission of materials sufficient over net. It is useful in sending the large files from one computer to another. Codec machine also works for decoding and encoding the useful information. A computer and high-speed Internet connection are essential for a successful video conferencing. High-speed Internet connection makes your video conferencing effective and interesting.

Video conferencing is reliable and an excellent method of communication. Video conference can easily connect you with other companies. You can generate your business from one place and give instructions to your subordinates. It makes bright future for your business and institution. This pioneering technology keeps your company up to date.

Video conferencing is currently an affordable way of communication. A large range of video conference units is available in the market. Buyers should check company expansion and system compatibility while choosing the best video conferencing unit.

Business phone systems and the companies who sell them exist in a world all their own. The competition is stiff, with several different retailers and wholesalers carrying the same brands. The competition for used and refurbished business phones and business phone systems is even fiercer, as many companies are searching for equipment that can be used to expand their current system. Often, phone and phone system manufacturers engineer their products so that they aren’t universal and will not work with a variety of other products.t

This can be a poor selling point for buyers of new business phone systems, but if a company already has a system such as this in place and wants to expand, they have little choice but to use the same equipment. This is the reason why there is such a market for used business phone equipment. It is always much cheaper to hunt down a handset that is compatible with your system than it is to replace the entire system every time you need to add a few phone lines.

Additionally, so many businesses are ill prepared for purchasing the right phone system for their particular needs that they often end up replacing the system in a relatively short time. The old equipment can then be sold or refurbished and sold. Often, wholesalers and retailers will give discounts for new systems if they are able to take the system it is replacing as a “trade in”. New and even used terminals, KTX add-ons and PBX equipment can be a major expense.

It is often necessary to find out how much it will cost to expand the type of system you have, when possible. In many instances, purchasing a slightly larger system than you what you currently need can save you money as down the road, even used equipment may cost more than what you would have been able to pay for brand new.

What could be better than getting away from it all in an RV and still having the benefits of the digital age with the ability to e-mail all of your family and friends, and keep track of the latest news of the world, while still being able to shop for the greatest bargains during your travels across the country.

One of the main benefits of RV satellite Internet connection is the fact that it is extremely fast. In fact it makes DSL and cable connections seem like they were from a previous lifetime.

With a satellite feed, you will have one of the quickest Internet systems in the world through the link with a satellite dish, which accesses information from the many satellites that are circling the earth in outer space.

This direct connection via satellite offers unprecedented speed and ease of use, all at your fingertips no matter where you are.

The satellite dish isn’t only limited to RV’s with many people using them for other applications such as their trucks, boats and various other vehicles.

Of course, the bigger majority of people will have their satellite Internet at home where the dish can be attached to the house for fast Internet access.

It is especially convenient for businesses that are on the move as the dish can be removed from the office and transported to a new location with relative ease.

It is also very handy for temporary applications, such as promotional events where Internet access is needed in a location other than the main business premises. The convenience of the dish Internet connection offers unprecedented flexibility for the business owner to operate from a location in a very short amount of time.

People on the move, such as RV owners are also able to use additional services such as voice-Over IP phone services that offer the very best quality that technology can bring. Voice-over IP phone services are as clear as cell phones in terms of communication quality and there aren’t any problems with the communication being out of range, as can happen with a cell phone.

Satellite Internet can also offer Virtual Private Networks, or VPN for those people who need to operate their business whilst on the road.

Whether you are considering communication systems for your RV or simply a more flexible application for your home or office, satellite Internet is an excellent alternative.

These days with more and more of us working from home, working on the road, and generally dealing with multiple suppliers, contractors and business partners in locations all over the world, the conference call is supplanting the face-to-face meeting. Here are some tips on getting the most out of your conference call…

Tip One: Send Out an Agenda

The key to an effective meeting is an agenda – this applies to any kind of meeting, not just a conference call. With a conference call, always make sure you have the instructions on how to access the conference call at the top of the agenda, preferably in a box or with some other text decoration to make it stand out.

Another option is to send a meeting request from within your calendar application, whether it be Microsoft Outlook or Apple’s iCal, or some other scheduling tool. The meeting request is sent as a specially formatted email, so you can add attachments just like with a regular email. Attach the agenda, and repeat the instructions on how to connect to the conference call in the body of the email.

Most conference service providers require participants to dial a special number (which may be different depending on where the user is, or it may be a national number), then enter a conference “room” number, followed by a security code or PIN. Make sure all the necessary details are included on the agenda and the meeting request.

If the conference call is a regular status update, ensure you also send out the meeting notes from the previous call, since the first item on the agenda should be chasing people up for the actions they’ve agreed to be responsible for.

Tip Two: Take Care of Housekeeping

At the beginning of the call, call off the roll and ensure everyone is on the call. Introduce any newcomers to the rest of the group and invite them to spend a couple of minutes describing themselves and their role on the call. If anyone is missing from the participants list, immediately call them (preferably on their mobile) to get them onto the call as soon as possible. If they can’t get on the call within a couple of minutes, proceed without them. Nothing detracts from a good conference call more than making everyone wait at the beginning.

Next, ensure everyone has a copy of the agenda, and that they can all hear one another OK. If you are not going to be the one taking notes, make sure everyone is clear who is. This serves two benefits: firstly, the person taking notes is going to be careful and accountable, and secondly, a single set of meeting notes will be distributed after the call. If this is not made clear, you may end up with several versions, which is both redundant and confusing.

Finally, lay out the rules for interaction on the call. Because it’s audio-only, the usual cues we use to indicate that we wish to take a turn at speaking are not present. Therefore it’s worth stating at the outset what the rules will be. These can be as simple as “Please make a note of any questions and we’ll deal with them in turn after each agenda point”, or as sophisticated as listing the order of speaking of the participants, and asking each participant only to speak at their particular time. This last is called “round table” conferencing, and is particularly effective once people are used to it. It has the dual effect of keeping all participants engaged, and speeding up the time it takes to get through each point.

Clearly it’s unrealistic to expect people to stick to the interaction rules for the duration of the call, but laying them out at the outset will help ensure things run quickly and smoothly.

Tip Three: Turn Off Speakerphone

Unless you have a majority of participants all in one room together, you should turn off speakerphone. Speakerphone and conference calls are a bad combination, unless you have a high-quality dedicated speakerphone. In order to prevent audio feedback, speakerphones automatically mute the speaker when a sufficiently loud sound is heard at the microphone. Unfortunately, few speakerphones do this particularly well, and often the speaker will mute because of its own output feeding back into the microphone. This means annoying dropouts and missed words and sentences.

Because it’s a conference call, often these dropouts can go on for some minutes before someone has the opportunity to pipe up with “We missed all that!” Needless to say, having to constantly repeat yourself can be very time consuming and irritating for all the non-speakerphone participants.

Even if you’re in the same room as someone else, it can sometimes be an improvement to use two handsets rather than use speakerphone.

Tip Four: Send Out Meeting Notes

You should ensure everyone on the conference call gets a copy of the meeting notes no later than the following morning, while the call is still fresh in everyone’s minds.

There are many helpful guides on the web for effective note-taking, but in essence:

* Don’t try to write down absolutely everything; just the items where an action needs to be taken
* Keep track of who has agreed to be responsible for each action
* Keep track of the deadlines for each action item
* Don’t forget to note the time and date of the meeting and who was present

If the conference call is a regular status update, ensure you note in the meeting notes the time and date of the next meeting. If possible, deadlines for action items should correspond to the dates of status meetings so that the notes can be quickly scanned (or even sorted) for items that need to be chased up in a given meeting.

Tip Five: Keep it Brief

Studies have shown that people start to suffer a number of unpleasant side-effects after holding a telephone receiver to their ear for longer than about an hour. In any event, forty minutes is about the limit of most people’s concentration span.

If you find the call is starting to drag on beyond an hour, it’s a good idea to wrap things up and continue either later that day, or preferably the following day. If you find this is a regular occurrence, it may be an indicator that you need to revisit the agenda, or possibly split the group up into separate, more focussed groups. A particular time-waster is having engineers and businesspeople on the same conference call. A better way to handle this is to have three shorter meetings – one with just the engineers, one with the businesspeople, and one with single representatives from each group to present the results and take any feedback to the next department meeting. With practice, you can keep the length of each meeting down to around twenty minutes.

Telephones are widely used all over the world mainly for domestic use or may be for office use. In case of Office Phone Systems, the system is so designed that it allows its user to share the same external telephone lines rather than using individual telephones. These telephone systems are mainly designed for several phone users at a single location. In PBX phone system there is some additional features like voicemail with forwarding, reminders, screen display and screen call options. The private branch exchanges for office phone systems are also capable of answering the phones and greet their clients with auto-generated messages and there is also an option for live call transferring in this system.

The Automated Attendant is a phone system accessory that can answer the phone calls by generating automatic messages electronically. The callers are allowed to route themselves through a series of menu prompts by the Automated Attendant. The voice mail systems are generally equipped with the basic automated attendant system. An ACD or Automated Call Distributor is a phone system accessory which helps to route incoming calls among a set of extensions and handles them efficiently. ACDs are mainly used in call centers or enquiry offices where it can process many incoming calls at a same time. The CTIs or the Computer Telephony Integration have broad category of applications. The CTIs are used to connect a phone system to a computer. The CTI retrieves important data from any incoming call and with their expertise and process this data for useful business purposes. The Key System Unit (or KSU) have features like call forwarding, extension dialing and voice mail options. The Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP helps users to place voice information in digital form using the Internet.
